A Second to Fall

On the train at 8am, I didn't sleep at all last night
I tried in the dark to shake you out of my head
Nights turn into mornings, I'm getting weaker by the day
Rolled a hundred miles again turning in my bed

Twisting my pillow, counting sheep
Watching the clock face, losing sleep
Another thirty degrees; One more hour lost to memories

The country air behind us, pushed out by the city swell
Again at the platform but I have no concentration
My eyelids are losing the battle but I must stay awake now
I'm on my way to you when I leave the station

Twisting my pillow, counting sheep
Watching the clock face, losing sleep
Another thirty degrees; One more hour lost to memories

I waited and I waited, but you never came
Seems tonight is another night that will end up just the same
Is there a cold spot on this mattress, is there a place for me to hide?
These coast defences are washing away and I'm holding back the tide

Twisting my pillow, counting sheep
Watching the clock face, losing sleep
Another thirty degrees; One more hour lost to memories
